- 2.0 out of 5 stars from Coton-Enthusiast -- Favorite Author : But seriously this novel took on way too many issues. I notice several reviews indicate it’s about the dangers of on line dating and yes, that’s one theme, but it also delves into mental health issues, survivalist life style, and family abuse. Too many heavy issues to make a tightly woven novel. I think I would have enjoyed a novel about online dating, but I stopped reading this novel at 70%. Disappointed. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Michelle Vetter -- Incredible and dark : One of the best books I have read in a long time. I couldn't put it down. It was fast paced and raw and triggering. A story of survival and I was guessing until the very last page. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2021 )
- 3.0 out of 5 stars from Well Read Nana 1/24 -- Intriguing , this author is a wonderful writer but the ending was not solid enough : 3.5 stars for me .The story started out well , strong and very intriguing. The author writes very well , the way she tells a story gets you very invested .The problem for me was the ending. It wasn't solid, it had holes and it was a stretch for believe ability. I felt like the author just lost me in the end , not that it was confusing but because it became too reckless and not plausible .I was invested so it was a bit disappointing but overall I wasn't sorry I read it .Again until the ending I was enjoying the book. The author really makes you feel, makes you understand and attach yourself to the characters, I liked the feels I got from the book even in that last pages I still had all the feels from her writing. I just think if the ending was more realistic it would have easily been a 5 star read .Very entertaining, very well written and a intriguing read . If you are not a stickler like me for "plausible fiction " than I think you will truly enjoy this read. If you are a stickler for realistic fiction I think you will forgive the stretches of reality in the end and still like this read . ( Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Susan M. Baumann -- Immersive, Evocative and Emotional : Excellent book. Multi-layered and expertly-crafted. The first of Unger’s books I’ve read. It begins with contemporary angst and modern technology. Wren is a young, successful, NY advice columnist and podcaster, with a small, tight circle of friends and a complicated past. She’s savvy and guarded, but still looking for love. She finds enigmatic Adam on a dating site, and falls hard. The have a few months of heady romance, then he disappears. Distraught, Wren assumes she’s been ghosted, and turns to her best friend, Jax. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2021 )
- 3.0 out of 5 stars from Nancy C. -- Great writing, disappointing story : The 3 stars are more for the writing than the story. Unger is an excellent writer, almost a philosopher, as she builds her tale about the dangers of online dating, but the story itself goes awry as it continues. As the chapters unfold, the heroine, Wren, shows herself to be both amoral and and repugnant, with no holds barred on her behavior as she tracks down her ex-online lover. Yet, Unger celebrates her and gives her (at least in Unger's mind) a happy ending. (It's ironic that Unger makes Wren a successful and admired advice columnist, doling out what-to-do to people with mental health problems who should be referred to qualified professionals.) - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Nicole -- never a dull moment : I can never put a Lisa Unger book down and this was was no exception. All her books are fairly similar in storyline, but her talent as a writer is just so great I can’t pass up a single one if her books. Her writing is so captivating. It just keeps moving and there’s no way to put the book down because I’m afraid it will keep moving without me and I’ll miss something. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2021 )
- 5.0 out of 5 stars from honeyb -- wow : This book was definitely a page turner. I couldn’t stop reading it. I am glad it ended like it did. For a while I was afraid Wren would die. So glad she didn’t. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 8, 2021 )
